Privacy policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how BITHECA ("we," "us," or "our") handles personal information when you use the website, sign in, keep a reading library, request book recommendations, subscribe, or contact us. This policy takes effect on the date shown above. You can reach us atsupport@bitheca.com.

2. Information We Handle

  • Account and profile: Your third-party sign-in identifier and email address, authentication records, username, display name, profile details, and images you choose to upload. Sign-in providers also handle authentication information under their own policies.
  • Reading activity: Books you add, reading status and history, ratings, notes, reviews, and images you provide. Your content, including your profile, library, and images, may be visible to others depending on the features you use or how you share it. Content available at a public URL may be accessible to anyone who has that URL.
  • Recommendations: Your selected answers and the related question and book-list text needed to produce a recommendation. We send this text to a third-party AI assessment provider to score questions and reading lists.
  • Subscription and support: When you subscribe, we may receive your plan, subscription status, payment status, billing identifiers, and transaction references from the payment provider. We also handle information you send in support requests.
  • Technical and usage information: IP address, browser and device information, request and security logs, pages visited, and interactions with the service. We may use a third-party analytics provider to collect usage events and identifiers to help us understand use of the website.

3. How We Use Information

We use personal information to:

  • provide accounts, libraries, recommendations, subscriptions, and support, including processing payments and renewals when you subscribe;
  • operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the service, and prevent fraud or misuse; and
  • send account, security, subscription, and support messages, comply with law, and enforce our Terms of Service.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies or browser storage for sign-in, security, and your service preferences. A third-party analytics provider may use cookies or similar technologies when analytics is enabled. Your browser settings may let you limit these technologies, but disabling essential storage may prevent sign-in or other features from working.

5. Who Receives Information

We use third-party providers for hosting, storage, authentication, analytics, AI assessment, payment processing, and support. We share information described in Section 2 with these providers as needed for those services. Your browser may also request fonts and book-cover images from third-party sources. Those sources receive information associated with the request, such as your IP address.

We may disclose information when required by law, to protect the service or others, or in connection with a business transfer. We do not currently sell personal information for money or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will provide any additional notice or choice required before changing those practices.

Third-party services used on this website may collect personal information about your online activities over time and across different websites. Our website does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.

6. Retention and Account Deletion

We retain account and library information to provide the service. Items you delete from your library may remain available during the recovery period shown in the service. You can request account deletion through account settings. The account deletion process removes your library, profile, and sign-in identity from the active service without a recovery period. We may keep limited information for as long as needed for security, disputes, legal obligations, or subscription records. Provider logs and backups may follow their retention cycles. We keep other information only as long as needed for its purpose or as required by law.

7. Your Rights

You can review and edit your profile and library through the service and request account deletion in account settings. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to confirm whether we process your personal information; access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of it; or opt out of certain processing. To submit a privacy request, or appeal a denied request where applicable law provides that right, email support@bitheca.com. We may verify your identity and may deny a request or retain information where applicable law permits.

8. International Processing

We and our providers may process information in countries other than yours.

9. Children

BITHECA is not intended for children under 13, and children under 13 may not use it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can address it.

10. Changes and Contact

We may update this policy, including for material changes, by posting the revised version with a new effective date. We will give additional notice when required by law. For privacy questions or requests, emailsupport@bitheca.com.
