Terms of service

1. Agreement and Eligibility

By accessing or using BITHECA, you agree to these Terms of Service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you must have a parent or guardian's permission to use it.

2. The Service

BITHECA provides book discovery, recommendations, and tools for keeping a reading library, notes, and reviews. Recommendations, book information, and availability details are for informational purposes and may be incomplete or inaccurate. We may change, limit, or discontinue features, subject to applicable law.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping access to it secure. Do not share credentials or use another person's account without permission. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use. We may require you to verify account ownership before assisting with a request.

4. Your Content

You keep ownership of your profile, library information, images, notes, reviews, and other material you provide ("Your Content"). You must have the rights needed to provide it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, format, process, display, and distribute Your Content only as needed to provide, secure, and support the service, including making it available to others through features you use or sharing you enable. Our service providers may exercise these rights on our behalf for those purposes. This license continues during any available recovery period. It ends when Your Content is permanently deleted from the active service, except for copies retained in backups or as required by law.

Your Content, including your profile, library, and images, may be visible to others depending on the features you use or how you share it. Content available at a public URL may be accessible to anyone who has that URL. We do not acquire ownership of Your Content.

5. Acceptable Use

You may not:

  • break the law, infringe others' rights, or misuse their data;
  • submit unlawful, abusive, deceptive, harassing, or harmful material;
  • gain unauthorized access, disrupt the service, introduce malicious code, or bypass security controls; or
  • scrape, bulk copy, or use service content or data to build datasets or train AI systems without our written permission, except where applicable law does not allow such a restriction.

We may remove content or limit accounts to enforce these Terms, protect the service or others, or comply with law. We are not required to monitor all content.

6. Subscriptions

If you subscribe, the price, billing interval, included benefits, any trial, and any additional conditions will be shown before purchase. Unless the checkout terms say otherwise, a subscription renews automatically until canceled through the available online billing flow before the next renewal. Canceling stops future renewals, and access generally continues until the end of the paid period unless your access is suspended under these Terms or the checkout terms.

Subscription charges are non-refundable for unused time or partial billing periods except where required by law or stated at checkout. A payment failure or reversal may suspend paid access. If a third-party provider manages billing, deleting yourBITHECA account may not cancel the subscription with that provider; use the applicable billing flow. We may change plans or prices with any notice or consent required by law.

7. Our Materials

The service, software, design, editorial content, catalog data, and recommendation systems belong to us or our licensors. These Terms give you only a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the service. They do not grant rights to copy or commercially exploit our materials except as permitted by law or with our permission.

8. Suspension and Deletion

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, suspected fraud, security risks, payment failure, or legal requirements. You may delete your account in account settings. Account deletion removes your library, profile, and sign-in identity from the active service and cannot be undone. Limited records may remain as described in the Privacy Policy or as required by law.

9. Disclaimers and Liability

To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of uninterrupted availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from the service.

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of US$100 or the amounts you paid for the service during the 12 months before the first event giving rise to liability.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability or consumer rights that cannot be excluded or limited by law.

10. Changes and Contact

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version and date. Where required, we will give additional notice or seek consent. Continued use after updated Terms take effect indicates acceptance where permitted by law. For questions, contactsupport@bitheca.com.
